Pollyteach students and staff raised over £130 for Macmillan Cancer Support at this year’s annual Coffee Morning fundraiser, part of the school’s commitment to its CORE value of being Charitable.

Students, parents and carers baked and donated a wide selection of cakes for the event, with staff praising the generosity and creativity on display. The bake sale ran alongside two other fundraising activities: the ‘Get Your Own Back on James’ wet sponge throwing session, and the ‘Fake Cake’ competition.

James is one of Pollyteach’s Wider Curriculum Leads and volunteered himself as the target for students and some brave staff members to throw wet sponges at him. It was a fun activity that students definitely did not expect, but it proved to be one of the most enjoyable parts of the day.

This year’s Fake Cake theme, ‘The Battle of the Sponge’, challenged students to build a sponge cake entirely from sponges and craft materials rather than food. Staff said the entries were highly imaginative, with students showcasing strong artistic skills in the design and build process. Winners were announced on the day.

Activities like the Fake Cake competition also build problem solving, communication, adaptability and collaboration skills alongside the fundraising itself.

Pollyteach thanked everyone who took part, baked and donated on the day, helping the school raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support while bringing students and staff together for the event.
