Supported Work Placements
At Pollyteach, we support all learners with their education and well-being. One way we do this is through Supported Work Placements.
Supported work placements give students the opportunity to gain real work experience in a supportive environment. With guidance from trained staff, students develop skills, confidence, and independence while taking part in meaningful tasks in a real workplace.
Seesaw Nursery
On Friday mornings, a group of our students volunteer at a local day nursery in Kirkby-in-Ashfield. During their placement, they support staff by setting up, cleaning, and clearing away equipment, as well as helping to facilitate arts and crafts activities.
This experience gives students valuable opportunities to interact with young children and their parents or carers, helping them to develop important communication and teamwork skills. Week by week, we’ve seen their confidence grow as they take pride in their role and responsibilities.
Portland Farm
On Monday afternoons, some of our students volunteer at the farm on the Portland College site. During their placement, they take part in a range of practical tasks, including feeding the animals, changing bedding and water, and grooming.
While mucking out may not be the most popular job, students understand the importance of completing all tasks as part of caring for the animals. This hands-on experience helps them develop responsibility, teamwork, and confidence in a real working environment.
