As part of our ‘Preparing for Adulthood’ program, in October our Key Stage 4 students visited a local Careers Fair. This follows on from the work that we have been doing during Tutor Times about Aspirations and Post-16 Options. We have also been discussing what employability skills are and the importance of ‘soft skills.’ Students demonstrated their open-mindedness at this event by interacting with people from varying occupations and getting to know more about them.

The students were able to walk around and interact with around fifty local businesses, colleges and training providers. It was great to see them effectively communicate and learn valuable information about things like ‘A’ Levels, ‘T’ Levels and Apprenticeships. They all conducted themselves maturely and a number of Training Providers have offered to come into school and deliver C.V. Writing Workshops and hold Mock Interviews. The students also heard how much employers value young people volunteering in their local community. Students open-minded approach to learning about vocations allowed them opportunities to consider what is next for them.
