The Elms
Located on the Portland College campus in Mansfield, The Elms offers a safe, nurturing, and highly supportive learning environment designed to meet the individual needs of every student. The site is arranged into four specialist corridors, each providing tailored support that helps learners grow academically, socially, and emotionally. Alongside core subjects to GCSE level, students can also work towards NCFE Level 1 qualifications in Personal and Social Development and Well-being.
Students benefit from our wider provision through access to Portland College facilities and the local community, enjoying opportunities such as Forest School, woodland walks, Woodland Adventure Zone sessions, volunteering projects, and charitable events.
Our Corridors
Hollies
This corridor supports our KS4 students through small-group learning (3:1), ensuring personalised attention and meaningful progress. Alongside core subjects, students take part in activities that prepare them for adulthood, including volunteering with local charities and food banks, helping to build confidence, independence, and essential life skills.
Redwood
Our KS3 nurture area, providing a calm and supportive space where students learn in small groups (3:1). Quiet spaces are available for additional support, and afternoon sessions focus on emotional well-being and social skill development through engaging, structured activities.
Elms Corridor
Within this corridor we offer a specialist provision for KS3 students with a wide range of needs. Students receive targeted English, Maths, and Science teaching in small groups (4:1), with afternoons dedicated to community-based activities that build confidence, engagement, and social development.
Meadows
This is our dedicated KS4 corridor, where students work on core subjects, as well as being able to work towards NCFE Level 1 qualifications in Personal and Social Development and Well-being, supporting both academic progress and wider personal growth. Learning takes place in small groups of 4:1 for core subjects, ensuring personalised attention, while well-being sessions are delivered on a 1:1 or 2:1 basis depending on each student’s needs.
Well-being at the Heart of Our Provision
Pollyteach is home to our much-loved support dog, Dottie, who plays a key role in supporting student through calming, positive interactions.
Our dedicated well-being team delivers enriching outdoor learning sessions at Rhubarb Farm, The Mill Adventure Base, and through our on-site Forest School which provides hands-on opportunities to learn and grow in natural environments.
